Whether you're visiting Cape Town for a family holiday, honeymoon or special celebration, I'd love to help you capture this unforgettable chapter of your story.
As a Cape Town family photographer, I know some of the city's most beautiful locations, from iconic beaches and breathtaking mountain views to peaceful forests and hidden gems. Together, we'll create relaxed, natural photographs that you'll treasure long after your holiday has ended.
One of the best parts of planning your photography session is choosing the perfect location. Whether you're dreaming of iconic mountain views, endless beaches or peaceful forest walks, Cape Town offers something for every family.
Every location has its own unique charm, and I'll help you choose the one that best suits your family, the season and the style of photographs you're hoping for.
CAPE TOWN'S ICONIC TABLE MOUNTAIN BACKDROP
Iconic views of Table Mountain, wide open beaches and spectacular sunsets. Perfect for relaxed family sessions with plenty of space for children to explore.
MOUNTAIN AND OCEAN SCENERY
Known for its spectacular mountain and ocean views, Camps Bay is a wonderful choice for photographs. During peak holiday periods it can become quite busy, so if you're visiting in December or January, I'm happy to suggest alternative locations that offer a similar Cape Town feel with a little more space and privacy.
WIDE OPEN BEACHES
With its long stretch of unspoilt coastline and relaxed atmosphere, Noordhoek is ideal for families looking for a quieter beach experience. It's one of my favourite locations for capturing natural, genuine moments while your family enjoys everything this beautiful part of Cape Town has to offer.
PANORAMIC VIEWS
With panoramic views of Lion's Head, Table Mountain, the Atlantic Ocean and the city below, Signal Hill offers a variety of spectacular backdrops in one easily accessible location. It's an ideal choice for those looking to capture the beauty of Cape Town at sunset.
PEACEFUL WOODLAND SETTING
For families who love nature, Tokai Forest provides a calm and beautiful backdrop throughout the year. The soft light filtering through the trees creates a timeless setting for relaxed, natural photographs while children have the freedom to simply be themselves.
How far in advance should I book?
What time of day is best for a session?
What happens if the weather is bad?
What should we wear?
How long will it take to receive our photographs?
I recommend booking as soon as your travel dates are confirmed. During Cape Town's busy holiday season, availability can fill up quickly, while quieter months may offer a little more flexibility. If you're planning a last-minute trip, don't hesitate to get in touch, I may still have availability.
For the most beautiful golden light, I usually recommend scheduling your session to begin around 45 minutes before sunset. Early morning, just before sunrise, is another wonderful option, offering soft light and quieter locations. The ideal time will also depend on the location you choose, and I'll happily recommend what works best for your session.
Cape Town's weather can be unpredictable, so I always recommend keeping an alternative date available where possible. If it's too windy for your chosen location, I may suggest a more sheltered spot instead. If we do need to postpone due to the weather, I'll do my best to reschedule your session, although alternative dates may not always be available, particularly during busy holiday periods.
There's no need to buy a whole new wardrobe for your session! I recommend choosing outfits that you already feel comfortable and confident in.
Soft, neutral and earthy tones photograph beautifully, while it's best to avoid bright, bold colours, large logos and heavily branded clothing. Collared shirts, dresses and textured clothing often photograph beautifully, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and like yourselves. If one family member is wearing a pattern, it's best to keep everyone else's outfits plain and complementary to create a timeless, coordinated look.
Once your session is booked, I'll email you my Pinterest inspiration board along with a few helpful tips to make choosing your outfits easy.
Every image is individually edited with care to ensure the highest quality. During Cape Town's busy season, you can expect to receive your private online gallery within 3β4 weeks, while delivery is often a little quicker during the quieter months. You'll be able to easily view, download and share your photographs with family and friends.
I'd love to hear from you! If you're visiting Cape Town and would like to book a family photography session, complete the form below and I'll be in touch to help plan the perfect session.

"Jo was absolutely amazing. We are incredibly happy about the outcome of the photos and she was so great with our children, a toddler and a baby. My husband who generally dislikes doing photo shoots, said he enjoyed it. We were both afraid of how awkward it can be but Jo made us feel comfortable from the moment we met her. I would recommend her over and over again."
